Ladies Section Golf

The Ladies’ section is a very active part of the Club, both socially and competitively. Section membership is strong, with a wide range of handicaps.

Medal competitions are played on the first Tuesday in the month from March to October and "stand alone" Weekend Medals are also played in the same months. Ladies Cups and Trophies are played on remaining Tuesdays. In order to aid participation of ladies who work during the week, competitive events may also be played on the previous weekend, making all the competitions open to all Lady Members. Informal, non-qualifying, competitions are held during the winter months with a view to encouraging new members and high-handicappers.

The section supports four teams covering all abilities: two 'A' teams; one 'B' team and an ADP team, each compete in the York Ladies’ County Golf Association Interclub Team Championship. Each team plays in three home, and three away matches. Members also have a chance to play at other clubs in competitions within York Union GC, Veteran Association, East Yorkshire Winter Alliance and the York Union Winter Alliance.

New members are very welcome. An inaugural meeting is held on their behalf and, for members new to golf, a mentor is appointed to help them integrate within the club. A ‘Friendly Round of Golf’ (FROGS) group helps beginners with on-course etiquette and the playing of the game, as well as helping them mix with other players. Beginners are encouraged to gain an official handicap, and are helped as far as is possible.
