LADIES
The
Ladies’ section is a very active part of the club,
both socially, and competitively. The membership, currently,
is around 120 with a handicap range of 8 to 36.
Medal
and trophy competitions, the majority being handicap qualifiers,
are held on every Tuesday from April to mid November.
For
those ladies whose employment precludes their playing
on Tuesdays Tee times are made available at weekends so
that they can continue to participate, and to qualify.
During
the winter months less formal, non-qualifying, competitions
are held with a view to encouraging new members and high-handicappers.
Small prizes for these events are donated by members.
An
Open meeting solely for members of other clubs is held
annually on the first Friday in July. This is a popular
and well supported event.
The
section supports three teams covering all abilities. The
Scratch, A, and B teams each compete in the York Ladies’
County Golf Association Interclub Team Championship. Each
team plays in three home, and three away matches.Members
also have a chance to play at other clubs in York Union
GC competitions, Veteran Association comps, East Yorkshire
Winter, and York Union Winter Alliance competitions.
New
members are very welcome. An inaugural meeting is held
on their behalf and, for members new to golf, a mentor
is appointed to help them in integration within the club.
Beginners
are encouraged to, and as far as possible helped in, attaining
a handicap as soon as possible.
The Ladies Section has an enviable record
of returning value to the club. We run numerous events,
both social and competitive, and funds raised from these events have
been used to provide the drinking fountain
by the 7th tee, compressed air shoe cleaning equipment,
and a practice net en route the first
tee.
